They Burst Into Song So Often

So this happened.  Buncha weirdos.  But then fan interaction!  Megan thought it was important that I know she was not planning on joining our team, so she added the mini panel to the comic.

Shaunsy Lumpkins

This is one of more controversial strips.  It's my Ulysses.  It may take you more than one reading to fully comprehend its brilliance.  While the plot may be thin, it's about immersing yourself in the environments.  Really hearing the characters voices.  Revel in the introduction of Shaun.  In a way, this is a six panel comic.  But in another way, it is a ten panel comic.  Think on it.

Off The Books

I've been favoring a five panel format.  No idea why.  Just how I've been jamming.  I thought, hey, why not make a first panel that introduces the name of the comic & characters?  Six panels.  Get a nice rectangle thing going for the next book.  So I drew that first panel.  Do I know why I drew Bob-omb?  No idea.  I certainly didn't have a comic in mind.  But hey, who am I to waste a good first panel?  So I ran with it.  He's of course copyrighted out the yin yang, and will never see the inside of a Barista Powers collection.

Failing to Go Pro.

I'm too easily distracted to Go Pro.  In a moment, I can have intense focus.  But a lifetime's lack of skills attests to my inability to keep that focus rolling without intense aid.  Which is where you all come in.  Barista Powers is nearing it's three year anniversary, of sorts.  I don't have a date on the first one, and it was a while yet after that it was deemed Barista Powers.  But in November it will have been three years with The Company.  Feedback, be it praise or demands, has kept Barista Powers up and running.  Feedback inspires me to attempt to have a new comic every day I work at the Black Dragon, guilts me into having a filler panel when I fail, and set the tone of making light of my failures.  I've sold more than eight books so far.  It might not be a significant number in the real world, to me it is astonishing.

Almost Verbatim

It's not uncommon for a member of my team to walk up behind me and start talking to me as if I were not taking orders and making drinks.  I do my best to answer in-between responsibilities, which can lead to fairly unintelligible response.  Sometimes though, sometimes, there is a moment of distilled surrealism.  How could I have anticipated such a moment?  On what day was I supposed to wake up, and think to myself "Today Maren will ask me if our friendship could survive her removing her face?"

Awwww, crap.

I apologize for my negligence!  I bought eight copies of The Barista Powers Omnibus and I've been personalizing them upon request.  It's like writing one joke comics on a reader by reader basis.  It's fun, but it's made feel like I've been staying active with the comics, when, in fact, I've just been playing with my new responsibilities.
