Barista Powers: Old School pt.5

I haven't been working on the comic for a while now, but I still fire off the occasional sketch at work, just like the old days.  This week I'll share my work doodles; don't expect much of a narrative.

Today: This is a first panel I made while on register.  I might still finish this one into a comic.

Postcards: Maren's Last Supper

Before she left us for Texas... an idea I still have some feels about... Maren asked me to draw a Barista Powers Last Supper for her.

It was in my Field Notes; it must worked on.  I began with researching the Last Supper and doing some sketches.

And from there onto the actual postcard:

After getting this far, I started scanning my progress, convinced I would ruin the card at some stage.

From left to right: Benish, Maureen, Sarah, Melanie, Pam, Maren, Rob, Burbol, Geoff, Ben, Doug.

And there you have it.

The Creative Process

I have been all over the place at work.  It is good for me, but it means I have not had constant exposure to any of my coworkers, my main inspiration.  So I literally just started drawing.  My actual first three panels were these:

As you can see, I had no direction.  So I drew Ben, thinking maybe I would do some sort of coffee tasting sequel, or even a series.  My first rendering was not a success, but I went ahead and added speech.  My drawings often berate me for my inability to draw.  Then I tried again, somehow less successfully.  By my third drawing of Ben, I did not even really have a plan anymore.  Behold the might of my creative process!
