Postcards: Shaun's Corn Collage

Sometimes these things get away from me.  It is not an unheard of problem.  Many an artwork would have been better off if the artist had stopped 60% of the way through.  It is easy to get lost in what feels like refinement.  That is not quite what happened here, but I have been talking recently with other artists about productivity vs perfection, and effort vs return.  You are likely to hear more musings on these topics soon.

Below you see the first two images combined.  I was drawn to the expressiveness of both images, and used them as my jumping off point.  I have yet to even trim both images to fit the card stock.  I also missed removing the background within the elbow of the corn; I will attempt to hide this sin with text.

I found words that I felt complemented the image well, and played around with their placement.  I should not have glued the corn down before this stage; I would have preferred to have some of the text run underneath it.

Here is where it completely got away from me.  I think I could have made the additional text work, if I could have slid pieces underneath the corn.  I tried to force it, and the composition was weakened.

Finally, I added the logo to the lower right hand corner, just to balance the added elements.

Season 3 Blooper Reel

I want at least two more panels with one more clapperboard, so the book can have two 9 panel pages of bloopers.  If I can get another two pages after that, awesome.  It'll make for a good end of the book.

Fire Proximity Suit

Still not sure how I feel about this process.  I even scanned these all together.  Hmmmmm.

I mostly wanted to work Shaun into the comic again.  This was part of a five day run of writing a comic a day as part of my time at Black Dragon.  Shaun is seen here at Lou's, working on his Surface.  I haven't quite captured his cadence, but the "Run, probably" is pure Shaun.

That Guy Is Talking That Day

I'm trying this panels presented as cohesive whole thing.  I believe it's called a strip.  It's a formatting pain in the ass.  But you know, I love you guys.  I'll give it a shot.  Today.  Maybe again later.  I dunno.  What are you thinking?  I think I meant, what do you think?

Shaunsy Lumpkins

This is one of more controversial strips.  It's my Ulysses.  It may take you more than one reading to fully comprehend its brilliance.  While the plot may be thin, it's about immersing yourself in the environments.  Really hearing the characters voices.  Revel in the introduction of Shaun.  In a way, this is a six panel comic.  But in another way, it is a ten panel comic.  Think on it.
