Postcards: memoires non conformes

Are you familiar with Kensuke Koike?  Kensuke is a contemporary visual artist from Japan, and has just amazing stuff on Instagram.  I saw this video, and was inspired.

Begin with a vintage ad!

Make a grid.

Think "who owns a hole punch anymore" and go across the street to buy a hole punch.  You're never going to find a square punch.  Go home and start punching.

Keep punching.

Keep punching.

Keep punching.

Keep on punching.

Ta-da!

Postcards: This Duck-billed Paradox

I bought this issue just for the cover.

Look at it.  An evocative image of parasite eager to feed.  I knew I could use it.

Oh, man.  I saw a Nat Geo about the Platypus; I bought a Nat Geo about the Platypus. I was hoping for weird descriptions, and I was not disappointed.

Curios & Conundrums has given me some good text, though not as much as you'd expect.  I sat on "At the Mountains of Madness," confident there would come a day a design would come calling for it.

Once I had what felt like enough elements, I played around with them as I assembled the card.

Postcards: Heron-y

This is based on a photo I took off of Military Ridge State Trail in Wisconsin.

Not bad, eh?  Plenty of mistakes, but some of my more successful water.

Postcards: You'll Remember Oregon

Oh man, I need to start taking notes while I work.  I can't remember where this photo of doll painting came from.

More Nat Geo military goodness.  Such a distinct voice.

Oh, Oregon.  This is kind of a weak ad.  I bet I can make it better.
