Postcards: Fish

This is another instance of copying a style distinctly not my own.

I was (am?) following Mel Narish on Instagram, and was inspired by this fish.

Postcards: Tentacle Artist

Remember the card I made for Ross?

My buddy Alexis responded strongly (in a positive fashion) to the tentacles, inspiring me to try another go at them.  This time I went a little less Day of the Tentacle with them.

Art: Wound Map, Hand

I draw my hands quite a bit; they're always around when I'm drawing.  I've made little notations about all the little discolorations before.  What makes this one the most unique is the coloration.  I have, in my head, an idea of how I want to depict what it felt like to get a tattoo, but I don't have the skills yet.  This was me thinking about how to use imprecise coloration deliberately.

1. Traditional pencil outline

2.  Black ink outline and details

3.  Blue watercolor marker shadows

4.  Wet brush fill

5.  Watercolor pink

6.  Black ink labels

Sketches: Drawings from the Register

Skeletons!  I have been known to draw them, from time to time to time to time.

This is just what I can see from the register.

Don is going to make me a spurtle.

Skeletons go back pretty far, artistically, but the tradition of drawing them on register at Farm/Sofrito started with this one.  A very natural progression led to this skeleton flexing.

It will never be clear to me why Hall & Oates were so popular.

Der Kommissar was playing.  That's all.

Postcards: The Strange

If you know me, you know I love me some wartime art.  I cut this piece out with no plan; I knew I was going to use it for something.

I had been looking for a use for this strange bird for a while.  It's from something unintuitive, like a booze or cigarette ad.  The painting style is similar enough to the background it blends in pretty well.

Then I just wanted some third element, to stick to my own collage rules.
